Pokémon Scarlet & Violet — Which Version to Buy
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet brought the series fully open-world. The two versions are mirror-image: the same game with different version-exclusive Pokémon and a few flavor differences.
Scarlet vs Violet: the only real difference
- Scarlet — past-themed creatures (e.g., Koraidon, a bike-like mount)
- Violet — future-themed creatures (e.g., Miraidon, a bike-like mount)
- Everything else — story, region, and core loop — is identical
Pick based on which exclusives you like. Most players go by which legendary looks cooler.
The DLC question
The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion adds two story arcs and is sold as a paid add-on. If you plan to play long-term, the bundle with the DLC is usually better value than buying base + DLC separately later.
Performance note
The base game had a rough launch technically; later patches improved it. On Switch 2 (if you have one) it runs markedly better. Worth knowing before you buy pre-owned at a discount.
